Seasons of Plenty

This image was printed as a mural that spanned the entire length of the wall at the Gutstein Gallery

The last couple of years have been fruitful—time to get this blog up to speed.

First off, some fancy awards from reputable folks like the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, and American Illustration. Big thanks to SI 65 for recognizing my “Empty Nest” series, created for the Gutstein Gallery. And thank you to curator Brittany Richmond for bringing the project my way. These pieces were a bit smaller than my usual big boys, but I had fun playing with Photoshop-like transparency effects in traditional media. I’m glad the Society heard the dog whistle for a new media-adjacent aesthetic.

Below are a few pieces from that series.

Thanks also to Communication Arts for recognizing one of my favorite recent works, The Hunt—a 48" x 96" acrylic painting on panel. Always honored when a personal piece gets a little love. The original is currently on display in Lacoste, France—yes, the same village where the Marquis de Sade did all of his, well, allegedly historic stuff.

And shoutout to American Illustration for selecting my piece for St. Louis Magazine, art directed by the wonderful Tom White, for their printed annual.

Two other highlights: SCAD put my painting Bindlestiff on a bus, and I get to see it cruise by now and then, which warms my heart. They also turned one of my works into a puzzle. It’s a tricky one—lots of stripes and similar colors. Give it a go if you like a challenge.
